“The funds that are raised by our camp stew sale support all of our social service programs” May said. “In recent weeks we have gotten a lot of extra requests for food, for blankets and heaters. With the extremely cold weather in January, we can expect more requests for assistance with next month’s utility bills because that’s when the January bills will hit us.”

Donations to the Thrift Store and usually down during the winter months and this winter is no exception.

“We really need donations of furniture and miscellaneous items and knick-knacks,” May said. “All donations to the Salvation Army are tax deductible.”

The Salvation Army board is busy preparing for the annual Empty Bowls Luncheon fundraiser  in April.

“We have planned a Community Bowl Making Day where people come and make bowls,” May said. “The bowl making day will be March 3 from 9 a.m. until noon with a second session from 1 until 4 p.m. at the American Legion Building on East Walnut Street in downtown Troy. Then on March 17 those who made bowls will come back to glaze their bowls. It doesn’t matter whether you have worked with clay before or not. It’s a lot of fun and you’ll have a piece of pottery you can take pride in.”
