The Goshen Lady Eagles fell to rival Luverne 43-26 on Friday evening in Goshen.

The loss leaves the Eagles still searching for their second area win.

Friday’s game against the Tigers was the Eagle’s third game of the week and fatigue was a factor.

“We were just fatigued,” said head coach Fred Lowery. “It’s just hard playing two big area games back-to-back and night after night. Fatigue is showing.”

The Eagles played Calhoun on Tuesday night before playing Central-Hayneville on Thursday.

The Eagles fell behind early after scoring two points in the opening quarter. They went into the second trailing 12-2. Goshen’s Bree Griffin tried to get the Eagles going in the second quarter by scoring five points. Unfortunately for the Eagles it was the only five points scored in the quarter and Goshen went into halftime trailing 20-7.

The Eagles outscored the Tigers in the third thanks to nine points by Griffin and Goshen went into the fourth trailing 30-18. The Eagles couldn’t claw their way any closer when the clock his zero.

Griffin led the way with 22 points on Friday night.

The Eagles will close out area play on Tuesday when they host Central-Hayneville.

“As it looks right now we are sitting in last place with one more (area) game,” Lowery said. “If we win Tuesday we could possibly be third with some help by Luverne and Central. We need to rest. I told the girls to go home and get of their legs and rest.”
