The top-ranked Charles Henderson Lady Trojans took care of Dothan on Monday night 45-16 in Troy.

There was little the Lady Tigers of Dothan could do to stop the Trojans on Monday.

“Hard work paid off,” said head coach Dyneshia Jones. “We played great defense. (We) moved our feet. Transition spoke a lot about this game.”

The Trojan defense held the Tiger offense in single digits most of the evening. The Tigers were only able to put up five points in the opening half.

Niaira Jones had the hot hand in the opening half and scored nine points, including five in the second quarter.

The Trojans took a comfortable 22-5 lead into the break.

Maori Davenport was the top scorer in the second half with 12 points. The Trojans went into the fourth quarter holding a 35-11 lead. Davenport had 8 of her 12 second-half points in the final quarter and the Trojans coasted to a 29-point win.

Davenport led the way with 18 points, while Jones finished with 13.

The Trojans will get back to area play this Thursday night when they travel to Greenville to take on the Tigers.

The two teams met in Troy on Friday night. The Trojans won that meeting 62-31.

“It’s very important,” coach Jones said. “Every win is important. We can’t have a letdown just because we beat them by a lot of points. It doesn’t mean anything.”
