The Tupper Lightfoot Memorial Library in Brundidge is gearing up for its Winter Reading Contest for Adults that begins on New Year’s Day and closes on March 15.

The Winter Reading Contest is for ages 18 and older and its popularity last year is expected to be even greater this year.

“There’s no better time to snuggle up with a good book than on a cold, winter’s night,” said Theresa Trawick, library director. “The Tupper Lightfoot Memorial Library has a large selection of fiction and non-fiction books for all interests and we invite and encourage those who enjoy reading to enter Tupper’s Winter Reading Contest for Adults.”

The person who reads the most books will win the grand prize of $100.

Both paper and ebooks are eligible materials for the contest but all entries must come from the Tupper Lightfoot Memorial Library.

To enter, simply visit the library on South Main Street in downtown Brundidge or call Trawick at 334-735-2145.

Trawick said the library’s regular programs will resume in early January. The Tuesday pre-school programs will resume at 10 a.m. on January 9 and the Thursday home-school programs at 10 a.m. on January 11. Tutoring in Reading for grades K-3 resumes on January 11 for teacher-referred students.

“Each first Tuesday at 4 p.m. is Teen-Time,” Trawick said. “On January 9, Teresa Kidd from East Central Mental Health will present a program on Suicide Awareness.’

The library’s Brown Bag program is a noon event on each third Tuesday.

Trawick said a special program in celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King’s birthday will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 27 at the R.E. Barr Nutrition Center.

Activities for pre-school through adults are being planned. The activities will include reading, crafts and games.

Trawick said the library needs the community’s help in getting photos and information related to the City of Brundidge, including families and churches.

“We have gotten calls from as far away as Texas about Brundidge history,” she said. “In order to help with these requests, the library needs more information. We would appreciate any information about Brundidge that is shared either on site or at tlmldirector@troycable.net.
