Trojans win two to advance to tournament final

The Charles Henderson Lady Trojans defeated Center Point 59-34 on Thursday evening and advanced to the championship of the Bob Jones Tournament.

The Trojans had three players score in double figures led by Niaira Jones’ 22. Maori Davenport finished with 18, while Tatyana Siler had 14. Nala Baker had four.

The Trojans doubled Cedar Point in points during the opening quarter and went into the second holding a 16-8 lead. Jones knocked down two three pointers in the second quarter and helped pave the way to a 28-16 lead for the Trojans at halftime.

The Trojans won all four quarters against Cedar Point, including the third quarter when they outscored their opponents 17-13. Jones converted on three more three-point attempts in the quarter. The Trojans entered the final quarter holding a 45-29 lead.

The Trojans lead held in the fourth quarter and they secured a spot in the tournament championship.”

The Lady Trojans began the day with a 52-41 win over Austin on Thursday afternoon.

The Trojans had three players score in double figures in the win. Baker led the way with 14, while Davenport finished with 12 and Jones had 10. Siler contributed with eight and Samira Moore had four.

The Trojans jumped out to a comfortable lead in the opening quarter. Davenport had a quick seven points and with the help of Baker’s four points the Trojans went into the second quarter holding a 17-5 lead.

It was a tie between the two teams in the second quarter. Both teams scored 12 points and the game went to halftime with the Trojans holding a 29-17 lead.

The Trojans had an 8-4 advantage in the third and took a 37-21 lead heading into the final frame.

In the fourth, Austin attempted to climb back in the game when they outscored Charles Henderson 20-15, but it wasn’t enough climb all the way back.

The Trojans will play in the championship at 3 p.m.
