The Troy Trojans have made it back to the R&L Carriers New Orleans Bowl and are set to play Saturday, December 16 at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans.

Troy will participate in their second consecutive bowl game for the first time since 2010, when they also played in New Orleans and defeated Ohio 28-21.

“I am really proud of our staff and players,” said head coach Neal Brown. “Our team is looking forward to representing the Sun Belt Conference at the R&L New Orleans Bowl. I had two great experiences there as an assistant coach; the bowl does a great job.”

The Trojans will participate in the first bowl game of the year, and even though there is a short turnaround for the Trojans, Brown believes the Troy fans will show up.

“It is a great destination city,” Brown said. “Our fans are excited and we need to have a really good showing down there. I know it’s earlier before Christmas and I think the Troy faithful will show up and show out at the Superdome.”

Even though the game is still over a week away, there will be plenty of events leading up to kickoff.

Starting at 6 p.m. tonight, the Trojans will hold a mini tour at Blackfinn Pub in Montgomery. Members of the Troy football coaching staff, athletics department staff and Director of Athletics Jeremy McClain will all be on hand to help celebrate the Sun Belt Conference champions. Door prizes will be given out and fans can hear insight about the bowl game and how to purchase tickets. Other stops will include the Troy Country Club from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Thursday and at Buffalo Wild Wings in Dothan from 6:30 until 8:00 p.m.

The first event in New Orleans will be on Friday, December 14, with the Fulton Street Square: Pep Rally and Fan Meet up between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. The pep rally will feature the Sound of the South and Troy Cheerleaders. Following the event, fans will be able to enjoy the entertainment district, including Fulton Alley, Manning’s New Orleans, Gordon Biersch and Grand Isle.

Trojan Walk will take place in the Marriott New Orleans Lobby. Time is still yet to be determined.
