The Brundidge City Council approved the rezoning of property on Galloway Road and set Christmas and New Year’s holidays for fulltime city employees at its Tuesday meeting.

The rezoning request was made by Betty Pollard to rezone her property from a multi-home residential to mobile home residential. Prior to voting in favor of the rezoning request, the council discussed that, although Pollard’s plan was to place one mobile home on the 2.3-acre property, the size of the property would accommodate up to 10 mobile homes if that became the desired at a later time. After some discussion, the council voted to approve the request.

The council discussed the upcoming Christmas and New Year’s holidays and voted to award the city full-time employees the Monday and Tuesday after Christmas, December 25 which is on Sunday and the Monday following New Year’s Day which is also on Sunday.

Mayor Isabell Boyd said the city is working with the Alabama Department of Transportation to have a sign placed on S. A. Graham Blvd. notifying no right turns onto Main Street by 18-wheelers. The awning of Brundidge Florist has been damaged six times or more by trucks attempting to make the sharp turn.

After a long absence on North Main Street, the city now has a new electronic clock that will provide the time and temperature to the downtown area.

Britt Thomas, city manager, said the clock also offers the available for community messages. Although the clock is up and ticking, Thomas said the installation is not complete and will include landscaping.

Thomas reported on the landscaping around the former BB&T building that was purchased by the city and will be remodeled for use as city hall. Thomas said the Brundidge Rotary Club has offered to plant 24 trees, one for each Brundidge Rotary member as the fulfillment of Rotary International’s commitment to plant a tree for every Rotary member nationwide.

Thomas said plans for the remediation of the city’s former hillside park are moving ahead. The plans include a walking trail at Ramage Park.

The Brundidge Christmas Parade was postponed until December 11 due to the threat of rain. The parade will be at 6 p.m. December 11 and follow a Main Street route.
