The Brundidge Business Association will host the annual Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting Ceremony Tuesday night in downtown Brundidge.

Lamar Steed, parade chair, said pre-parade festivities will get underway at 5:30 p.m. with caroling by the fifth-grade students at Pike County Elementary School on the grounds of the historic Bass House.

“The Brundidge Christmas Parade will get underway at 6 p.m. and come down Main Street from north to south,” Steed said. “Vehicles and floats will line up at the National Guard Armory on Highway 231 around 5:30 p.m. Walking units will line up at the old bank building on North Main Street.”

A special feature of the Brundidge Christmas Parade is the Jingle Bell Jog for children, ages toddler through fourth grade.

“The bell jinglers will also get in line at the old bank building,” Steed said. “We have 250 jingle bells so we invite all little children to get in the Jingle Bell Jog. It’s a lot of fun and everybody enjoys seeing the little kids.”

Steed said the parade will officially usher in the Christmas season in a fun and colorful way with bands playing, kids jingling and all kinds of fun entries to ring in the season.

“Following the parade, we will light the community Christmas tree and the Pike County Elementary School students, kindergarten through fourth grade, will sing Christmas songs from the front porch of the Bass House,” Steed said.

“The children singing is a highlight of the Christmas Parade and Christmas Lighting ceremony and we hope everyone will stay to hear them.”

For sure, all of the children will stay because news for the North Pole is that, immediately after the children’s choir sings, Santa Claus will come to town on a bright, shiny red fire truck.

“Santa Claus will arrive at the Bass House and then go down to the Knox Ryals Pavilion where he will hear the Christmas wishes of all the little boys and girls,” Steed said. “Each child that visits Santa Claus will get a stick of candy. Christmas will come to Brundidge Tuesday night and we invite everybody to join us for all the fun.
