The Troy Public Library has a Ho-Ho-‘Hole’ lot of fun planned for the Christmas season for the young to the young at heart.

Teresa Colvin, children’s librarian, said the fun will begin with Christmas Stories with Santa at 6 p.m. on Monday, December 5, in the children’s area of the library. Children of all ages are invited.

“Christmas stories will be read and maybe even by Santa himself,” Colvin said. “While the children wait their turns to share their Christmas wishes with Santa, they can make a holiday craft to take home as way to remember this special time with Santa.

“Parents are encouraged to bring cameras to capture those precious moments with their children and Santa.”
The TPL has been designated an official carrier for Santa’s mail service this year.

“And it was designated by Santa himself,” Colvin said.

Parents may pick up special stationary and envelopes for those special letters to Santa at the library.

“There’s an official holiday mailbox at the library right next to our Christmas tree,” Colvin said. “Children really enjoy dropping their letters to Santa in the mailbox. They know their letter is on the way to the North Pole where Santa’s elves are busying making toys for good little boys and girls.”

Parents are reminded to include their contact information, so it will be available if Santa needs it.

The official Letters to Santa mailbox will be accepting mail through December 15.

And brand new at the PTL this year is a unique event for ages 11 and older – the Troy Public Library Literary Ornament Contest.

“The idea of this contest is to craft an ornament based on a book and show it off at the library,” Colvin said. “The ornaments will be showcased on our library Christmas tree and on social media. All entries will be judged and the winner from each age group – youth, young adult and adult—will receive a gift card.”

The handmade ornaments will be accepted at the TPL December 6-15 and will be on display through December 19 and available for pickup after December 20.

“We are excited about our Christmas activities at the Troy Public Library,” Colvin said. “We have a large selection of Christmas books and videos available and encourage everyone to visit the TPL during the holiday season.”
