This December, the Charles Henderson High School cafetorium will be transformed into a beautiful inter ballroom for people with special needs.

The Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) decided to hold the inaugural ball this year for people who face cognitive or physical challenges.

“The idea for this event was inspired by the Joy Prom, a similar occasion held in churches for years,” said Jennifer Sanders, FBLA adviser. “FBLA hopes to help create a joyful night to remember for those who do not get to experience or participate in the events that others get the opportunity to enjoy in. They hope to bring these special people together and harbor bonds of friendship and unity. They thank everyone for their support and encourage all with special needs to come out and enjoy a night of fun!”

The club is prepared to host up to 50 honored guests ages 16 and up. The guests will be honored with valet parking, at which point one of 17 FBLA members will escort the guest up a candlelight path into the decorated cafetorium.

Each guest will receive a free t-shirt and a choice of a crown or bowtie and corsage or boutonniere.

The lead-out will begin at 4:45 p.m. and the guests’ names will be called out as they enter, along with the names of the gold and silver sponsors. An adult chaperone or spouse is also welcome to attend the ball.

The ball will feature a D.J., dancing and refreshments and will last from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The deadline to register is Wednesday, November 29.

Guests do not have to be students of CHHS or residents of Pike County to register for the ball. Registration is free.
