A Banks man was arrested and charged with a litany of offenses Monday including a felony charge of theft of property first degree.

Sheriff Russell Thomas said State Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) attempted to execute a traffic stop on Kaleb Barr, 22, on September 20.

“He began throwing expensive fishing gear out of his vehicle and some time later exited the vehicle and fled into the woods,” Thomas said.

Troy Police Chief Randall Barr said the equipment was high-dollar saltwater fishing gear that totaled over $2,500 in value.

Thomas said Barr managed to elude authorities until Monday, when the office got a tip that he could be at a residence in Dale County.

Barr was apprehended in Dale County and charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, attempting to elude, possession and reception of stolen property, possession of marijuana second degree and a probation violation.

He was transported back to Pike County Monday and incarcerated in the Pike County Jail, where he remains on a bond totaling $10,500.

The Pike County Sheriff’s Office, ALEA, Troy Police Department and Dale County authorities were involved in the arrest.

Theft of property first degree is a Class B Felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison.
