The Goshen Eagles were well represented at the South Sectional Swim Meet at Bishop State over the weekend. Freshman Addi Bruner and juniors Bryce Tatum and Dallas Daughtry all competed and successfully advanced to the State Swim meet in Auburn.

In the program’s first two years, Bryce Tatum was the lone representative for the Eagles. This season, Bruner and Daughtry joined the team and found immediate success.

“All three of them, for the first time in Goshen’s history, will be able to represent Goshen High School at the state swim meet in Auburn,” said head coach Shane Tatum.

Swimmers from Class 1A through 5A competed against each other at sectionals. Coach Tatum said the Eagles should enter the state tournament ranked in the top 10 based on the weekend results.

“That gives us an opportunity to possibly bring home a state title,” Tatum said.

Bruner took home first place finishes in both the 200-yard Individual Medley and the 100-yard breaststroke. Bryce Tatum finished in fifth place in the 200-yard freestyle and ninth in the 100-yard freestyle, while Daughtry finished in fifth in the 100-yard butterfly and seventh in the 100-yard backstroke.

The Eagles swam in six different meets leading up to the sectionals. The three swimmers started practice in August and have been swimming ever since.

“We train four days a week for two hours a day,” Tatum said. “I think we had six meets since August 1, so they have been traveling on the weekends and putting in the work. It paid off during the weekend.

The AHSAA Swim Meet in Auburn will be on December 1 and 2.

“We are going to stick to the plan and keep working hard,” Tatum said. “We are going to work on fundamentals and some stuff that I noticed in the meet.”
