ULM 52, Appalachian State 45
MONROE, La. (AP) — Caleb Evans accounted for 403 yards and five total touchdowns, including the go-ahead TD pass in the final minute, and ULM upset Appalachian State 52-45 on Saturday.

On a play that started at midfield with the score tied at 45, Evans looked left, slid up in the pocket and then found a streaking RJ Turner in perfect stride up the right sideline. That gave the Warhawks (4-5, 4-3 Sun Belt) a 52-45 lead with 23 seconds left.

The Mountaineers (5-4, 4-1) had tied it with 53 seconds to go and, after allowing the Warhawks to retake the lead, Taylor Lamb drove them to the ULM 39 for a Hail Mary attempt that fell incomplete as time expired.

ULM jumped to a 21-3 lead but App State rallied to a 31-28 lead and led again at 38-35 before the Warhawks closed with a 17-7 fourth quarter.

Evans passed for 356 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 47 yards and two TDs for ULM. Turner finished with six catches for 134 yards and two TDs.

Lamb passed for 339 yards and four touchdowns for the Mountaineers.

Georgia State 21, Georgia Southern 17
TATESBORO, Ga. (AP) — Conner Manning threw for 319 yards and two scores and Penny Hart caught eight passes for 191 yards and a touchdown as Georgia State escaped with a 21-17 victory over Georgia Southern on Saturday.

Trailing 17-14 with 2:31 left in the game, Manning hit Hart deep in the left corner of the end zone for the final score and then the Panthers (5-3, 4-1 Sun Belt Conference) held off Georgia Southern for its fourth win in the last five games.

The Eagles drove 61 yards in 10 plays to get to Georgia State’s 17 before the clock showed all zeros.

Georgia Southern had a first down on its 40 with 4:56 remaining when DeAndre Applin forced a fumble recovered by James Traylor, giving the Panthers the ball on Southern’s 31. Three plays later the Panthers took the lead for good.

Shai Werts led GS (0-8, 0-4), throwing for 147 yards and a touchdown and rushing for 63 yards and another score.

New Mexico State 45, Texas State 35
SAN MARCOS, Texas (AP) — Tyler Rogers threw for 474 yards and three touchdowns as New Mexico State charged back in the second half to knock off Texas State 45-35 in Sun Belt Conference action on Saturday.

Jaleel Scott hauled in seven passes for 130 yards and a touchdown and Anthony Muse caught four for 88 yards and a score as the Aggies (4-5, 2-3) rallied from a 21-17 deficit at the half to score two-straight touchdowns in the third to take the lead for good.

Twice the Bobcats (2-7, 1-4) closed to within three. They cut the lead to 38-35 when Jaylin Nelson took a handoff and then hit Caleb Twyford on a 69-yard scoring play with 9:02 left in the game.

Rogers passed to OJ Clark from the 14 and he dove for the end zone for the score with 2:22 remaining to seal the win.

Damian Williams threw for 321 yards and two scores for Texas State.

Louisiana 19, South Alabama 14
MOBILE, Ala. (AP) — Levi Lewis threw two touchdown passes and had 18 carries for 129 yards and Louisiana controlled South Alabama in a 19-14 win on Saturday.

The Jaguars drew to within the game’s final margin when Cole Garvin completed an 18-yard touchdown to Malik Stanley with 59 seconds to go. Louisiana (4-4, 3-2 Sun Belt) recovered the on-side kick and ran out the clock.

After Stevie Artigue’s 37-yard field goal in the first quarter, Lewis threw a 54-yard touchdown pass to Michael Jacquet early in the second, then three minutes later found Chase Rogers for a 13-yard score and a 16-0 lead.

Stanley, who finished with 68 yards receiving, caught his first touchdown of the game from 12 yards out from Garvin with 38 seconds left before halftime.

Garvin threw for 274 yards, two scores but had two interceptions. Jamarius Way had five catches for 110 yards for South Alabama (3-6, 2-3).

Arkansas 39, Coastal Carolina 38
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) — Cole Kelley scored on a 1-yard touchdown run with 1:55 remaining to help Arkansas rally for a second straight week to earn a 39-38 win over Coastal Carolina on Saturday.

The Razorbacks (4-5) trailed 38-25 early in the fourth quarter but were boosted by an 88-yard touchdown run by T.J. Hammonds and Kelley’s final scoring run.

Hammonds accounted for 179 yards in the comeback win over the first-year FBS Chanticleers, scoring on the long run and a 60-yard pass in the first half.

The win marks the first time this season Arkansas has won two straight games, and it’s the second time in two weeks the Razorbacks have recovered for a seemingly improbable victory — coming on the heels of last week’s 38-37 win at Mississippi.

Backup quarterback Kilton Anderson entered the game for injured starter Tyler Keane in the first half for Coastal Carolina (1-8) and accounted for 152 total yards in the loss.

The defeat extended the Chanticleers losing streak to eight games.
