The Charles Henderson Trojans close out region play this evening against Headland on senior night at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

The Trojans (4-4, 3-2) picked up a big win over Rehobeth last week to put them in third place in the region. This week, they hope to secure that spot with a win over the Rams.

“We have had a really good week,” said Trojan head coach Brad McCoy. “The kids came in on Monday excited about the win on the road last Thursday night. We had some things we had to correct, but the week of practice has been real solid.”

The Trojans find themselves in a tie for the third spot with Greenville. The Trojans own the head-to-head tiebreaker after they defeated the Tigers 27-24 in week 3.

The Trojans would like to feel more secure about that spot with a win this evening.

“It has to be business as usual,” McCoy said. “They understand what is at stake. We would rather play a number two seed in the first round than a number one seed. The kids want to win this next one, which would be two in a row. Then of course we have to travel to Northview next week. If we can manage to win three in a row, that would be some nice momentum.”

The Rams come to Troy with a 1-7 overall record and sits 0-5 in region play. They are coming off a 41-14 loss at home against Eufaula.

Charles Henderson won last year’s meeting 44-10.

“Headland is 1-7 and they are struggling this year,” McCoy said. “They got a new head coach (Danny Raines). I think they are still trying to find their way. They have some good ball players. It just looks like their continuity may not be there yet. With that being said, they show different looks every week. The difficulty we have had is knowing what to prepare for.”

The Trojans will celebrate senior night this evening. They will honor the senior band members, cheerleaders and football team.

“It’s my first group that I have had for four years,” McCoy said. “They have been with me now since I came to Charles Henderson. They have put in a lot of work. They have been a real joy to coach. The relationships that I was able to build is what I think I will remember the most. It’s going to be sad to see them go, but we will always remember the time, effort and energy  they put into our program and school.”

Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
