George Perry Sanders

George Perry Sanders, age 89 of Goshen, died Tuesday, October 24, 2017, at his home after a lengthy illness. Perry was born July 31, 1928 to the late Julius Gilbert Sanders and Ivy Lois

Johnson Sanders. He was also preceded in death by his step-mother, Mary Lillian Johnson

Sanders; a granddaughter, Julianne Goolsby; brothers, Tramel Sanders, JR Sanders, Will Sanders and Herman Sanders; sister, Mary Emma Sanders Folmar and an infant brother and sister. After high school, Perry joined the United State Army and served in Germany and Europe where he helped build an airbase. Upon returning home, Perry started to work with Perkins Tractor Company, which was eventually bought out by John Deere. Perry was known as an expert on the John Deere tractor. His father Julius had the first ever John Deere Tractor in Pike County and taught his sons to work on it. After spending 40 years with John Deere/Anderson Tractor/ Flint equipment, Perry retired in 2002.

A man of character, patient, slow to anger, unwilling to say an unkind word about anyone – these were all traits of this God-fearing man. Even at the end with his battle with Alzheimer’s, Perry had a deep and personal relationship with God – certainly a test and showing of his true character.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 26, 2017 from the chapel of Green Hills Funeral Home at 3:00 p.m. with Dr. Dwayne Norman and Reverend Kenneth Baggett officiating. The carriage of Green Hills Funeral Home will carry Perry to his gravesite in Green Hills Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday, October 26, 2017, from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Green Hills Funeral Home.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Molly Sanders; daughter and son-in-law, Brenda

and Ronnie Goolsby; son and daughter-in- law, Danny and Debra Sanders; grandchildren,

Justin (Monica) Goolsby, Heather (Joe) Guerrero, Celeste (Chris ) Mohon, Malerie (Brandon) Hill, Alex (Austin) Brook; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Frances Tidwell,, Jinene Drinkard, Aline (Chester) Garrett, Bessie (James) Grissette, Sara (Larry) Taylor, Betty (Cephus) Phillips, Elaine (Butch) Wells; brothers, James (Louise) Sanders, Oscar (Patsy) Sanders, Walter (Carrie) Sanders, Ted Sanders, Ned (Nancy) Sanders; and sister-in- law, Mary Alyce Sanders.

Serving as pallbearers will be Perry’s grandsons and Carter Sanders.

In lieu of flowers, memorials should be made to Bush Memorial Baptist Church, 605 S.

Georg Wallace Drive, Troy, AL. 36081, or to the American Alzhiemer’s Association, 2151
