Phillip Colquitt Hall, 78, lived a joyful, full life until his death on October 5, 2017 in his hometown of Grenada, MS.  Born December 3, 1938 in Wetumpka, Alabama the youngest of five children of Clarence and Helen Hall, he spent his early years on his family farm in Titus, Alabama.  He graduated from Wetumpka High School and Troy State University, where he met his future wife, Mary Duncan Hall of Troy, Alabama.  During college, Phil traveled from rural Alabama to the Cascade Mountains to work for the U.S. Forest Service as a park ranger in Stehekin, Washington.

Together, Phil and Mary Duncan began their married life in Troy, where they had two daughters.  They lived for a brief time in Montgomery, then settled in Grenada, where Phil began a long career with Koppers Industries.  He traveled the south as Regional sales manager in the lumber, rail and utilities industry until his retirement in 2004. In 1980, he became a founding member of the “You Just Never Know” Grove Tent at Ole Miss and enjoyed 37 years of tailgating before Ole Miss football games.  As an avid fly fisherman, Phil believed that fishing was as much about sleeping under the stars, wading the currents, and meeting new friends, as it was about catching the big one. In retirement, he loved trout fishing, playing cards, golf, morning coffee at the Biscuit Pit and sharing his cabin on Lake Martin in Eclectic, Alabama with his grandchildren, family and friends.

Phil is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary Duncan; daughter Helen Kenwright and son-in-law, Chuck, of Roswell, GA;  daughter Melinda Mallery and son-in-law, Mark, of New Orleans, LA; four grandchildren: Camille Mallery, Beth Kenwright, Kate Kenwright and Will Mallery; two brothers: John C. Hall and H. E. Hall; two sisters: Ibbie Moultrie and Jeanne Lynch; brother-in-law, Sonny Williford; two sisters-in-law, June Rose and Montney Burkett and many nieces, nephews and cousins.  All of these he loved and touched deeply.

Phil was ordained as an Elder at First Presbyterian Church in Grenada, where he served in the choir.  In later years, he became a member of All Saints Episcopal Church and enjoyed the Men’s Group and working with St. Nicholas Treasure Chest. Friends may greet the family from 5:00 -7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 6, 2017at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service and Saturday, October 7, 2017 from 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. at All Saints Episcopal Church in Grenada, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m.  Interment will be at Providence United Methodist Church in Titus, Alabama on Monday, October 9, 2017.  Visitation at Providence will begin at 1:00 p.m. followed by a brief service of remembrance and gospel singing.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to St. Nicholas Treasure Chest to provide toys for underserved children in Grenada County or All Saints Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 345, Grenada, MS  38901.
