The Pike County United Appeal 2018 Kick Off on Saturday, October 14 at Cattlemen Park is shaping up to be an appeal like no other.

The annual fundraiser will be from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. and will feature the Miss and Little Miss Pike County United Appeal Pageant, vendor booths and the Master of the Grill Rib or Chicken Cook-off.

All funds raised will benefit the 17 local agencies that are supported by the Pike County United Appeal.

Jane Thrash, PCUA board president, said the board is now accepting applications for entries in the Master of the Grill competition and for vendor booths.

The Master of the Grill competition is going to be a lot of fun, highly competitive and very tastefully done, Thrash said.

Teams or individuals may vie for the title of Master of the Grill and the winner/winners will take home super prizes including a grill and $400 in cash.

The entry fee for the rib or chicken cook-off is $50.

Vendor booths are available for arts, crafts and food. The fee for the 10×10-foot booths is $50.

Pete Jordan at Max Credit Union and Millie Johnson at Sanders Lead Company are the contacts for both the Master of the Grill cook-off competition and the vendor booths.

Thrash said a fun day of activities, events and entertainment has been planned for the Pike County United Appeal 2018 Kick Off at the Cattlemen Building.

“Entertainment for the kick off will be the SheBANG! Cloggers and Johnny Barron,” Thrash said. “The Miss and Little Miss Pike County United Appeal Pageant will be on stage at 11 a.m. We’ll also have pumpkin painting, games, a bouncy house and the cow patty drop.”

A big event of the PCUA Kick-Off will be the presentation of the spatula to the winning Master of the Grill.

Admission to the PCUA Kick Off is $1 or the donation of items that are being collected for the local agencies that are supported by the PCUA. The list includes canned meat, pasta, dried beans, dog and cat food, diapers, baby bottles, bibs and blankets and coats and blankets for the elderly.

Thrash said everyone is encouraged to make plans to attend the PCUA Kick-Off on Saturday, Oct. 14.

“The PCUA supports 17 agencies here in Pike County,” she said. “We invite the community to come out and meet our board members and learn more about the agencies that serve our friends and neighbors.”
