Troy AAA team sets new records during the summer

Even though the season ended weeks ago, the Troy AAA All-Star team keeps getting good news.

Troy didn’t finish where they would like to in the state tournament that was played at the Troy Sportsplex this summer. They made their way through the brackets before ultimately falling to Hueytown.

Troy had success on both offense and defense, but it was the power surge that set them apart from most teams in the tournament. They hit a total of nine home runs during the tournament, good enough for a tournament record.

“Anytime you can set records, and in some cases tie records, it gives you something to walk away with,” said head coach Adam Brookins.

Jordan McBryde, Jackson Booth and Kade Brookins each had one home run, while Wes Braisted hit two.

Cade Edwards hit a team-high four home runs in the tournament, which set a new state tournament home-run record.

“They all came at critical times in the games,” Brookins said. “He came up big. His bat was the main reason why he made that team and he didn’t disappoint. Any time you earn respect from the other team then you know you did a good job.”

Troy entered the tournament with the reputation of being a strong defensive team. Along with defense, they added the power.

“These boys have always been able to play good baseball,” Brookins said. “They have never been known as a power team. We have always made a name for ourselves with defense. That is what we always hang our hats on. It’s nice to know that they can do it. The power we have played a big role with how far we made it in the tournament.”

The Troy team also tied the record for having two home runs hit in an inning, but was the first team to have it happen twice during the tournament. Troy also tied a record for hitting three home runs in a single game and the tournament as a whole set a new record with 23 homeruns, with Troy accounting for nine of them.
