Pike County residents spent much of Sunday making preparations for Hurricane Irma to hit Monday as a Tropical Storm.

Residents packed local grocers stocking up on nonperishable items such as bread, which was all but sold out of a local store Sunday evening.

Some gas stations also had limited gas supplies from evacuees traveling through the area.

Many top officials gathered Sunday afternoon for an update from interim EMA director Herbert Reeves. Some of the officials present included Troy Mayor Jason Reeves, Troy Police Chief Randall Barr, Troy Fire Chief Michael Stephens, Pike County Sheriff’s Deputy Willie Cope, Pike County 911 Director Chris Dozier, Pike County commissioners Homer Wright, Robin Sullivan, Chad Copeland, Charlie Harris and Russell Johnson, County administrator Harry Sanders, Troy City Council president Marcus Paramore, Probate Judge Wes Allen, Troy Utilities Manager Brian Chandler and Assistant Manager Mike Davis, Troy Regional Medical Center CEO Ronnie Dean, Pike Liberal Arts Headmaster Becky Baggett, representatives of the Troy-Salem Baptist Association, representatives of TRMC, representatives of Haynes Ambulance, representatives of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency and more.
