The Troy University Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi saw a need in the Pike County community and responded.

Chapter President Jerome Solomon said the chapter members learned that there are many young men in the area who don’t have the proper attire for job interviews or other semi-formal occasions.

“When going for an interview, being dressed appropriately is important. We talked about it and decided to make meeting that need a part of our mission,” Solomon said.

The alumni chapter brothers donated like-new suits from their own closets and others also donated suits to the cause.

“We donated shirts and ties to match the suits,” Solomon said. “We recognized the need beyond suits and ties and also donated shoes, pants and casual shirts to the Christian Love Center closet for additional items for young men.”

Organized in 2013, the Troy University Alumni Chapter is a relatively young chapter but a very active one.

“We began working on the chapter organization in 2012 but the national and regional organizations want to see that you are serious about getting a chapter started so it’s a year before a chapter in chartered,” Solomon said. “We have about 12 active members and our mission, our goal, is to be actively involved in the community. We host the fish fry for senior adults each year during Older Americans Month and participate in activities at the Boys and Girls Club as well as having small fundraisers like car washes. When we see a need we try to meet that need. When we see an opportunity, we try to take advantage of it.”
