A Troy man was arrested on multiple charges early Wednesday morning, including a felony count of possession of a controlled substance.

Troy Police Chief Randall Barr said officers conducted a traffic stop on Jabari Quintaous Brown, 25, just after midnight Wednesday for an improper tag. By the time the stop was finished, Brown had been charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, carrying a pistol without a permit and two counts of driving with a revoked license.

“As officers checked the status of Brown’s license, it was revealed that his privilege to operate a motor vehicle in Alabama had been revoked and he also had two active warrants with the Troy Police Department; one for driving with a revoked license and one for driving with a suspended license,” Barr said.

Brown was then taken into custody, Barr said, and officers began a search of his vehicle.

“Inside of Brown’s vehicle officers found a handgun, drug paraphernalia, and prescription medication,” Barr said. “Brown did not have a permit for the handgun nor did he have a prescription for the medication that was found.”

Brown was transported to the Troy Police Department where he was processed through the Troy City Jail and then incarcerated in the Pike County Jail.

Possession of a controlled substance is a Class D felony, possession of drug paraphernalia a Class A misdemeanor, and carrying a pistol without a permit is a violation.

In all, Brown is being held on a $2,500 bond. Class D felonies are punishable by up to five years in prison.
