High noon was the favored time for gunfights in the Old West and it’s the favored time for the Countdown to Kickoff for the local 2017-football season in Troy, Alabama.

The Trojans of Troy University and Charles Henderson High School and the Patriots of Pike Liberal Arts are primed and ready for duels of the “high noon” kind on the gridiron this football season. Their head coaches will be the featured guests at the Brown Bag Meet and Greet on the square in downtown Troy at high noon Thursday.

Troy University Coach Neal Brown, CHHS Coach Brad McCoy and PLAS Coach Gene Allen will be available for photos, to sign autographs and preview the 2017 football season at their schools.

The Countdown to Kickoff and Meet and Greet will be from high noon until 1:30 p.m. Hotdogs and beverages will be available on the square. Those who would like to tailgate with takeouts are welcome to do so, said Shelia Jackson, Troy tourism and public relations director.

“The Countdown to Kickoff will have a tailgate atmosphere,” Jackson said. “We encourage everyone to show their school spirit by wearing their school colors. The coaches will be glad to autograph footballs and T-shirts and have their pictures taken with their fans. It will be a chance to show the community’s support for our local teams and have a fun time together.”

Tony Terry, WSFA anchor and host of Today in Alabama and Alabama Live will be the emcee for the Countdown.

“Tonya is a graduate of Charles Henderson High School and Troy University and a big fan of both schools. She just might lead a cheer from her high school days and finish it off with a round off,” Jackson said, laughing.

On a serious note, Jackson said Terry is a dedicated ambassador for Troy and is always willing to come home and support local activities.

Willie B. Williams will join Terry as co-host for the Countdown to Kickoff and the fun will really begin with Willie B. and Tonya T.

Henry Hendock will provide the entertainment that will include the fight songs from each of the school represented. Alonza Russell will bring Sam Cook’s music to life.

“There is a lot of excitement about the football season and the schools are expecting great support from their fans. We have great traditions at all the schools and look forward to great seasons on the gridiron,” Jackson said. “We encourage all supporters of our local schools to join us as we kick off another great season of football in Troy.”
