The Troy Recreation Department is extending registration for the upcoming season of tackle football at the Sportsplex.
The league will form three leagues this season that include the 12 and under age group as well as a 10 and under and an 8 and under group. Last year, the center offered only a 10 and under group.
Along with an 8 and under group, the recreation center is also changing when games are played. Games will now be played on Saturday and not during the week.
Kids that are interested in playing football this season can register at the Troy Recreation Center this week. The cost is $35 for one child and $60 for two.
Being able to play tackle football at the recreation level, participants have an opportunity to learn the sport of football from the bottom up and to play under great coaches and win a super bowl trophy at the end of the season.
“They get to travel,” said Assistant Director of Troy Parks and Recreation David Dickey. “They have the opportunity to play in the playoffs and Super Bowl. They will play in a jamboree at the beginning of the year. It gives them the same atmosphere as the high school. We are trying to get the feel of that.”
