The Tupper Lightfoot Memorial Library in Brundidge has a special Brown Bag event planned for noon on Tuesday.

“That All May Read” will be presented by the Alabama Regional Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped.

Theresa Trawick, library director, said the program will focus on the services provided by Alabama Regional Library BPH.

“Angela Hall and Tim Emmons will talk about the services the Montgomery library provides,” Trawick said. “The program will include information about state services for those with vision impairments and about adaptive technologies.”

Trawick said those who have minimal vision problems that make using computers difficult will also benefit from the program.

“Angela and Tim will bring a service dog and we’ll have an opportunity to learn more about the role these dogs play in the lives of those will vision impairments,” she said.

The Brown Bag events are open to the public. Those who attend the lunch hour event may bring sack lunches to enjoy during the presentation.

Libraries for the blind were established by the U.S. Congress through the Pratt-Smoot Act of 1931. This act provided an entity within the Library of Congress to handle special format materials for blind adults. Over the years, the law has been amended to include children with vision problems, persons with physical impairments, which affect reading, and persons with reading disabilities caused by a physical dysfunction. The Regional Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (BPH) began its services in Montgomery in 1978.

“Friends of the Library is an independent, non-profit organization that meets once a month, Trawick said.

The Friends of Tupper support the library in different ways, including volunteering, raising funds for needs at the library and especially promoting the library and its events. Officers are, Larry Shiver, president; Martha Harden, secretary; Molly Casey, treasurer.
