The Alabama Department of Agriculture board Monday visited Southern Classic Foods in Brundidge and Golden Boy in Troy in advance of a board meeting at Troy University. Commissioner John McMillan said he toured Golden Boy before in the past and wanted to bring the board to visit soon after.

“We meet once a quarter and I thought ‘Why not go and visit the industries we work with?’” McMillan said.

McMillan explained that his department is directly involved with checking the moisture quality of peanuts at the supply side, an important piece of Golden Boy’s production of peanut butter.

“In a sense, we’re making sure they get what they need,” McMillan said.
