Troy police responded to a call early Tuesday morning about a person sitting at the steps of a local school and found a woman stabbed multiple times in the upper torso.

Troy Police Chief Randall Barr said the victim was disoriented and did not know what happened to her or how she got to Troy.

“The victim advised officers that the last thing she remembered was getting off work at her job in Andalusia around 10:00 p.m.(Monday), getting into her vehicle and driving to a residence to change clothes,” Barr said.

The victim was transported to Troy Regional Medical Center by Haynes Ambulance and was later transported by air to a Montgomery Hospital for further treatment of her injuries.

Andalusia Police Department, River Falls Police Department and the Covington County Sheriff’s Department were notified and advised of the circumstances surrounding this case and they were able to determine that this crime was committed within the jurisdiction of the River Falls Police Department.

Early Tuesday morning, River Falls Police Chief Cody Warren said that his department received a report of an assault with a knife that occurred on Minnow Lane in River Falls.

Warren said in a release that a suspect had been identified but refused to release the name of the suspect, saying he would release the name within the next couple of days.

Police in Chetham County, Tennessee, arrested a Covington County man later Tuesday in connection with the crime.

WSMV, a Nashville, Tenn., station, identified the man as William Crawford, who was arrested during a routine traffic stop in Pegram, Tenn., early Tuesday.

WSMV reported that police said an officer first noticed Crawford speeding and when they attempted to make a traffic stop, he took them on a half-mile pursuit before stopping at a gas station.

Tennessee police told WSMV that Crawford gave them a fake name when he was questioned.

The officers searched his vehicle and allegedly found blood all over the car.

Police also found a woman’s purse inside the car, and when they checked the woman’s name, they discovered she was the victim of a stabbing in Andalusia.

WSMV reported that Crawford will be charged with attempted first-degree murder.

The Troy Police Department will continue to assist the River Falls Police Department with the investigation of this case as needed.

At last check, the victim was still in critical condition at a Montgomery area hospital.
