The Troy Belles kept up their dominating ways during their 18-6 win over Florida on Saturday afternoon in round one of the World Series in Sumter, South Carolina.

“They came out on fire,” said Troy head coach Brian McLendon. “They didn’t come out big headed, they came out on an equal playing field. They were very consistent and patient at the plate. We had a couple walks in the first inning that most people would swing at. They were very patient and aggressive when they needed to be.”

Troy jumped on Florida from the very beginning when they scored 11 runs in the opening inning. The final six runs came with two outs in the inning. Madison Campbell hit a grand slam in the inning to help continue Troy’s two-out rally.

“We batted around in the first inning,” McLendon said. “It was a good inning to hit the ball. it was just a good game all the way around.”

Morgan Bundy got the start and pitched the game’s first four innings and struck out six batters. Ally Rushing pitched the final three and struck out three.

“They looked really good,” McLendon said. “We gave up a few runs, more than we wanted to, but most of that can be contributed to the field. We got a lot of rain up here today and it made the field a mess.”

Troy will be back in action Sunday at noon when they take on Louisiana.
“We have to keep hitting and stay hot in the batters box,” McLendon said. “We have to play lights out defense.

Troy finished the weekend with a 10-2 loss against Louisiana on Sunday morning before staving off elimination by knocking of Virginia 16-2.

Troy will be back in action on Monday evening at 7 when the battle the loser of Louisiana and South Carolina.
