Former Charles Henderson and Troy University softball player Becca Hartley had the opportunity to play two more games when she joined the Alabama Collegiate All-Stars to take on Team USA in Montgomery.

“It was a really good experience,” Hartley said. “I was able to play with a lot of girls that I played against at Troy. It was cool to be able to get to know them on a different level.”

Hartley and the rest of the All-Stars fell to Team USA 10-2 and 7-0. Even though they went up against what Hartley called the ‘best softball players in the world,’ they weren’t intimidated.

“Our mentality kind of going into it was we played against or with most of these girls while we were in college, so there really wasn’t much of an intimidation factor,” Hartley said.

In Auburn, Hartley was greeted by many family friends, former teammates and people that have made an impact throughout her days playing softball.

“I was really surprised,” Hartley said. “I didn’t know all my teammates were coming. It’s really a blessing having that support system and being able to play with them was a true honor.”

Hartley started at shortstop in both games for Alabama. In game one, she reached on a fielder’s choice. In game two, she got the lone hit for Alabama when she singled down the left side in the third inning.

“I definitely wanted to hit off her,” Hartley said. “I was excited when I got a couple of at-bats. To get that hit in my last at-bat ever was pretty cool. We were just out there competing and trying to give them the best competition. It was really cool.”

Hartley finished her senior season as the leader in many offensive categories for the Trojans and her 16 home runs is tied for third most in Troy’s history. Those stats helped Hartley get into these games and to have her career end on a special note.

“I give credit to my coaches and teammates for instilling in me a hard work ethic and for giving me all the support throughout my time in Troy,” Hartley said. “I went out there really for them, playing my heart out one more time and just trying to give them the last chance to catch me in action. It was really neat.”
