Troy police have arrested a Georgia man in connection with a May 1 theft at a local business.

Kristopher Eric Cullings, 22, was arrested Thursday in Georgia in charges of first-degree theft of property and transported to the Troy Police Department.

Troy Police Chief Randall Barr said two employees of the business gave Cullings 16 $500 gift cards.

“Cullings was not an employee,” Barr said. “Two employees gave him the gift cards and in return, he gave them each one gift card a piece. They, in turn, took those gift cards to another business and used them to purchase money orders.”

The two employees were Darren Pass, 20, and Quentin Bessent, 30, both of Troy. Pass and Bessent were arrested two days later on charges of first-degree theft of property.

Although Pass and Bessent did not receive over $2,500 worth of goods, Barr said they were charged with first-degree theft of property assisting Cullings in the theft of $8,000.

In order to be qualified as first-degree theft of property, the property stolen must have a value of $2,500 or greater.

Barr said there are still others involved in this case and the investigation continues, with the TPD anticipating more arrests in the future.
