Goal one has been accomplished for Bobby Templin’s Troy Ozone Baseball team after they defeated Zion Chapel on Monday night to claim the sub-district championship.

Troy defeated Zion Chapel two times and Luverne once on their way to a 3-0 finish.

“I am super proud of the guys,” Templin said. “We did what we set out to do. We still have to win as much as we can this summer, but we also said we had to take steps along the way. We wanted to win every game in Troy and we did that.”

Not only did Troy win, but they won comfortably. In Troy’s three wins, they outscored their opponents 50-3.

“I am proud of the guys for coming out and playing the way they were supposed to play,” Templin said. “They swung the bats well, we threw the ball well and we played defense well. I am proud of the fact that we showed up and took care of business.

In the three games in Troy, the Ozone team didn’t allow one hit. Will Templin started the game for Troy in game one and was followed by Landon Tyler, Cameron Cox and Parker Adams in game two. Mario Davenport got the start in game two.

“The pitching staff has been terrific,” Templin said. “They have thrown the ball well. We have thrown strikes and have looked good throwing the ball. We have five to seven guys that we are very comfortable with on the mound. If we can keep throwing that way then we feel good.”

Troy has sported a deep lineup throughout the early stages of the summer.

“We feel like we have a very deep lineup,” Templin said. “We have a lot of good hitters with power at the top of our lineup. Even the bottom of the lineup has power and they all do a good job of making contact.”

Troy will wait to see who they will play in the best two-out-of-three series to determine the district championship in Enterprise. It will either be Enterprise or Geneva. If Enterprise beats Geneva, it will continue a very quiet but intense rivalry between them and Troy.

“It should be a lot of fun,” Templin said. “It always seems to come down between Troy and Enterprise. Just being in Enterprise period regardless of who we are playing will make for an exciting game, especially if it’s with Enterprise.”

Weather permitting, Geneva and Enterprise are scheduled to play later this week and the tentative schedule shows Troy playing at 6 p.m. on Monday.
“We are going to have to make contact solid with the ball,” Templin said. “We are going to make sure as we continue to get opportunities to make plays, that we continue to make them.”
