Troy Ozone claims sub-district title with 12-2 win over Zion Chapel

The Troy Ozone team continued their dominance on Monday evening when they defeated Zion Chapel 12-2 to claim the district championship at the Troy Sportsplex.

“It was much more of a competitive game tonight than it has been,” said manager Bobby Templin. “It feels good.

Troy will now head to Enterprise to participate in a best two-out-of-three series.

“It feels good,” Templin said. “That was what we set our goals on.”

Mario Davenport started for Troy and pitched all four innings and picked up the win, Davenport continued the theme of strong pitching on Monday night. Troy didn’t let up a single hit during the district tournament.

“He looked really good,” Templin said. “He threw the ball very well; I was proud of that.”

At the plate, Troy had contributions from up and down the lineup. Payne Jefcoat, Connor Thrash, Landon Tyler and Parker Adams all had two hits.

“We were challenge tonight by Coleman (Bragg),” Templin said. “He threw the ball well and kept us off balance. In the second time through the lineup we had better at bats and we started to see the ball and string some hits together to get some runs in.”

This Friday’s series with Enterprise will determine if Troy goes straight to the state tournament or if they have to participate in sub-state first.
