The Brundidge Historical Society will host a summer theater workshop for kids ages 8 to 13 at the We Piddle Around Theater in Brundidge June 26-28.  The We Play Around Summer Theater Workshop is designed for kids interested in the performing arts, including theater and music.

Chris Foster, president of the BHS, said the three-day workshop is free but is limited to 15.

The theater workshop will be from 9 a.m. until noon and will conclude with a public performance at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, June 28.

“The admission for the concluding performance will be $5 and will include a hotdog supper,” Foster said. “This will be a fun night for the kids and an opportunity for them to perform for their families and friends.”

“The theater workshop will be conducted by Troy University theater students, who have been recommended by Tori Lee-Averett, Troy University director of theater and dance,” Foster said. “Those who participate don’t have to have theater experience. The workshop is an opportunity for young people who are interested in the performing arts to be on stage for the first time or to enhance their theatrical skills.”

Foster said the workshop is not an audition for “Come Home, It’s Suppertime,” the We Piddle Around Theater’s hallmark folklife play that is presented in April and November by the BHS.

“Of course, we always welcome young people to the cast, but the purpose of the summer workshop is to introduce young people to theater and there’s no better way than to give them a chance to take the stage.

The workshop is a chance for kids to do something a little different this summer and come away from it with a better understanding of and appreciation for those people we call ‘actors.’”

Several teen “veterans” of “Come Home, It’s Suppertime,” will assist with the summer theater workshop.

“We have some very talented young people in ‘Come Home’ and the workshop is an opportunity for them to assist with staging, lighting, props, sound and music,” Foster said.

“We are looking forward to the summer theater workshop and encourage those who would like to learn more and do more this summer to join us.”
