The Troy Ponytails picked up plenty of hits and runs in their 19-1 win over Enterprise in the opening round of the district tournament Thursday night in Geneva.

The win for Troy vaults them into the winner’s bracket where they will take on the winner of Greenville and Pea River.

“We played pretty good,” said head coach Terry Garrett. “We hit the ball tonight. Dakota Berry hit an over-the-fence three-run homerun against them. We ran the bases pretty hard and we looked good. We’ll see what we can do tomorrow night.”

Along with Berry’s homerun’ Troy had good performances at the plate by Emily Bryan and Sparrow.

“We had some bunts,” Garrett said. “They struggled, there was quite a few walks, but We had quite a few hits too.”

The win for Troy makes their road to a championship easier according to Garrett.

“That was a very important win,” Garrett said. “That puts us in a good place in the bracket.”

Troy will take on the winner of Greenville and Pea River this evening beginning at 7:30 p.m.

In other softball action, the Troy Angels fell to Greenville in Geneva on Thursday night as did the Sweetees in Enterprise. The Belles and Darlings games in Luverne was cancelled due to rain and will be made it up this evening.
