If you’re looking for a family-friendly, outdoor activity this weekend, head to Downtown Troy for the inaugural movie night at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

“We are very excited about our first ever movie night in Downtown Troy,” said Leigh Anne Windham who works with the City of Troy and helps coordinate downtown activities.

“We will be showing ‘Sing,’ a Disney animated movie, at around 7:30 p.m. or 7:45 p.m. on the Square,” she said.

The Square has played host to several other outdoor activities, including viewing parties for Troy University athletic events. The viewing parties have been popular, leading the members of the Downtown Committee to introduce the movie nights.

“We’ve had people telling us that they would like us to start showing movies in Downtown,” Windham said, adding that outdoor movies are a popular family activity.

“We chose ‘Sing’ as our first movie because it is a family friendly movie that people of all ages will enjoy,” she said. “Outdoor movies are always fun, and what better outdoor venue than the Square?”

The movie is free to the public, and chairs will be provided. “But we also encourage folks to bring their own chairs or blankets,” Windham said.

Retailers and restaurants around the Square will be open on Saturday and into the evening, as well. “We encourage you to come early and dine at one of our downtown restaurants or grab something to go and enjoy it while you watch the movie.”
