Funeral services for Mr. Joe Owens age 79 will be conducted Tuesday at 2 pm in the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Susan Balfour, Rev. Reid Buckelew and Rev. Brenda Buckelew officiating.

The family will receive friends at Williams Funeral Home on Monday from 5 until 7 pm.

Mr. Arthur Joseph Owens, Jr. passed away June 2, 2017. He was predeceased by his parents Arthur Joseph Owens, Sr. and Annie Lee Sanders Owens, Brothers in law Roy Butgereit, Donald Hill, Tab Johns and very good friend and colleague Harold Watson.

Mr. Owens was a native of Troy, Alabama and had made his home in Milledgeville since 1973. He was a retired educator with the Baldwin County School System and had served as an adjunct Teacher with Georgia Military College and Georgia College and State University. He had received his BS from Troy State University, his Masters and 6 year certification from the University of Georgia. He had served as an area Director and President of the Retired Educators of Baldwin County. He has held several office positions in the Baldwin County Democratic Party and was a member of Milledgeville First Presbyterian Church where he served as a Deacon and Elder.

Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Butgereit Owens; daughters, Maelee (Michael) McDaniel of Kissimmee, Fl and Julie Ann (Robert) Deason of Milledgeville; sisters, Frances (Wayne) Waddell of Gulf Breeze, FL, Cornelia Johns of Troy, AL,  Joanne Owens( Kellie Tinneny) of Montgomery , AL, ;brothers, Sandy (Betty) Owens of Rockville, MD, and Bill (June) Owens of Opelika, AL; 2 grandchildren Rob and Will Deason.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations to the First Presbyterian Church Prison Ministry, to St. Jude’s or to The Ronald McDonald House.
