For several weeks, the street talk in Brundidge has been that Wendell K. Taylor National Guard Armory is closing.

Brundidge Mayor Isabell Boyd said residents have expressed concern about the situation and she has concerns as well.

On Tuesday, LTC Tim Alexander, public affairs officer, U.S. Army National Guard, Montgomery office said the Brundidge National Guard will be deactivated.

The Army National Guard Force Management Division, in compliance with the Headquarters Department of the Army, conducts analysis of the overall readiness and mission requirement for force structure on a regular basis, Alexander said. 

“Headquarters, Department of the Army (HQDA) determined that there is no longer a requirement for this unit in the Army Force Structure,” he said. “The deactivation of a unit is a routine part of force structure adjustments throughout the Army to ensure the right force structure is maintained.”

Alexander said the Alabama Army National Guard will ensure the solders of the 900th Maintenance Company will have positions in the Alabama National Guard.

“The Brundidge armory will undergo a renovation once the unit has deactivated,” Alexander said. “The Alabama National Guard is conducting a detailed analysis and will determine which unit will be stationed in the Brundidge Armory.”
