‘Barbara, Barbecue and Bluegrass’ to be at June Buggin’

When internationally acclaimed storyteller Barbara McBride-Smith first came to Pike County, she wanted to try Alabama barbecue to see how it stacked up with barbecue joints in her native Lone Star State.

In spite of her Texas upbringing, Barbara gave Hook’s two-thumbs up.

So, on Friday night, June 9, the We Piddle Around Theater will present “Barbara, Barbecue & Bluegrass” at the annual June Buggin’ in Brundidge. The odds are that the audience will give Barbara, Barbecue & Bluegrass two thumbs up as well.

“When our storytelling committee first saw Barbara McBride-Smith at the National Storytelling Festival in Jonesborough, Tennessee about 10 years ago, we knew that she was perfect for our Pike Piddlers Storytelling Festival,” said Mernette Bray, Brundidge Historical Society member. “She has been to the festival several times and she’s a favorite with our audiences. She also has ‘June Bugged’ with us and brought back memories of all of us ‘girls’ who fell in love with Ricky Nelson. We don’t know what she has in store for us at June Buggin’ this year but we can hardly wait.”

The Brundidge Historical Society will present Barbara McBride-Smith in two June Buggin’ events, a “Ladies ONLY Luncheon” at noon on June 8 and “Barbara, Barbecue & Bluegrass at 6:30 p.m., Friday, June 9.

Both performances include pre-show music, the luncheon/barbecue supper, both with dessert, and the performance by the master storyteller who serves sweet truth with a side of Southern Grit.

Tickets are $20 for each performance. Groups of eight or more are $15 each. For tickets call, 334-685-5524 or 334-9427 or 670-6302.
