Jamboree: Pike County Bulldogs sweep games against BCHS and Luverne

The Pike County Bulldogs closed out their spring practice on Thursday evening when they welcomd in the Luverne Tigers and Bullock County Hornets for a jamboree. The Bulldogs began the night with a 14-0 win over the Hornets and followed that up with a 13-0 win over Luverne.

The Pike County Bulldogs closed out their spring football schedule with a jamboree on Thursday, playing two quarters against both Bullock County and Luverne.
After a lengthy weather delay, the Bulldogs defeated the Hornets 14-0 to begin the evening.
“We had some good and bad times,” said Bulldogs head coach Fred Holland. “I think our guys overcame some things. For some of the guys this was their first experience with live contact. We are trying to get better. We got better as we went along We started making plays, but we probably gave up some plays too. I am proud of the kids for continuing to fight.”
The Bulldogs had two touchdown drives against Bullock County, both by TeKeven Thomas. The big Bulldog tight end and linebacker capped off a six-play drive for the Bulldogs when he hauled in a four-yard touchdown catch from quarterback Jaidyn Wilson. Kevon Harris had a run of more than 30 yards on that drive to set the Bulldogs up in the red zone.
For his second touchdown, Harris once again caught a Wilson touchdown pass this time from three yards out to give the Bulldogs a two-possession lead.
“They (offense) looked alright,” Holland said. “I saw a little improvement on the line, but saw a couple spots where I was disappointed. Overall I think they played decent. They came together and points on the board. We will get back and look at things on film and we will talk about how to get better at things.”
The Bulldogs held the Hornets scoreless thanks in large part to two turnovers. Jeremiah Foster recovered a fumble and Zion Scott picked off a pass for an interception.
“We still have a lot of work to do,” Holland said. “We made some plays, but we played fair. We have to look at film, but overall I thought we looked all right.
Scott also ran the ball for the Bulldogs on Friday night and although he picked up just two yards on the night Holland believes he can have an impact.
“I think he is steadily improving,” Holland said. “He did pretty good as far as making plays. He still needs to work on his blocking, but overall he is a hard worker. We are proud of him for what he does and he will steadily improve.”
Jahzarian Lampley unofficially led the Bulldogs on the ground with 32 yards. Wilson failed to complete a pass in four attempts, but rushed for eight yards.
The Bulldogs closed out the night against Luverne.
The Bulldogs picked up two more touchdowns by Lampley who picked up a rushing touchdown and Wilson threw his third touchdown of the night when he connected with Harris to give the Bulldogs a 13-0 win over the Tigers.
