There’ll be a whole lot of “Howl-N-at the Well” in Glenwood Saturday and Steve Holmes, emcee for the annual Festival at the Well, promises a dog-gone good time will be had by all.

“This year The Festival’s stage show opens with an all new event, ‘Howl-N-at the Well,’ which is a first time event for us,” Holmes said. “‘Howl’ will feature a doggy costume contest. We know how folks love their dogs, especially in our neck of the woods, so we decided to honor our ‘friends’ with an event just for them.”

The Dog Costume Contest will begin at 10 a.m. immediately following the festival parade and opening ceremonies at 9 a.m.

Holmes said traditional “country folks” entertainment has long been featured at Glenwood’s annual celebration of its historic artesian well, but the traditional entertainment and event schedule has changed somewhat this year.

“There’ll still be plenty of arts and crafts, festival food vendors and children’s activities, including Critters for Christ which is a traveling petting zoo,” Holmes said. “And, as always, we’ll have a non-stop lineup of South Alabama’s best entertainers from early morning until late at night.”

Taking center stage at the Festival at the Well will be longtime favorite groups including Harlan Burton’s Gospel Music Ministry and the Benton Brothers Bluegrass Company in the morning hours. “After dinner,” Holmes said the Conecuh River Boys and Cloudy with a Chance of Hale will take the stage along with the Crenshaw County Community Gospel Choir and the American Legion Line Dancers.

Vocalists Terry Tompkins, Taylor Weeks, Matt Holmes, Justin and Chad Sanders and Kat Deal will be featured throughout the day.

“The Festival at the Well kicks off in downtown Glenwood Saturday with a parade at 9 a.m. and winds down with a street dance that begins at 7 p.m.,” Holmes said.

“Lenny Trawick and the Country Rhythm and Blues band will play for our street dance.”

The street dance brings the annual Festival at the Well to a swishin’ and swingin’ and foot-stompin’ good time, Holmes said.

Tickets for the festival are $5 for adults and $1 for ages 12 and under. Tickets are good day or night or day and night.

The Glenwood Festival at the Well Foundation is a non-profit group that supports a scholarship program for students from the Glenwood area.
