The Pike County Bulldogs have hit the football field for their second week of spring football practice.

After finishing last season 9-3 and making the second round of the postseason for the second consecutive year, the Bulldogs have enjoyed getting back to work.

“It’s been going really good,” said Bulldogs head coach Fred Holland. “We have a good mix of young and old guys. We are still learning, but the guys are making good strides. We are coming up on our last days of practice and the guys are excited about playing a game on Thursday.”

The Bulldogs will host a scrimmage on Thursday when they play two quarters against both Luverne and Bullock County.

“It gives us an opportunity to evaluate our players and see our progression,” Holland said. “The guys are excited about playing a game; they are tired of beating up on each other. They are looking forward to just playing a little bit.”

With the mixture of inexperienced and experienced players, Holland and the coaching staff have put an extra emphasis on conditioning and fundamentals.

“We are trying to build our kids up to where they are bigger, stronger and faster,” Holland said. “We have been doing a lot of film work. We are moving some kids around, so seeing their development has been good.”

Returning players Jaidyn Wilson, Xavier Newsome, Jahzarian Lampley and Zion Scott will all be players to watch on come Thursday night.
