Spring football for teams is always an important time to reconnect and shake away the cobwebs that always come during the offseason. For the Zion Chapel Rebels and new head coach Randy Bryant, it’s all about getting to know one another.

Bryant was named head coach just under a month ago and he has had a lot to do in a short amount of time to get ready for spring practice.

“It’s been going great,” Bryant said. “We have one assistant coach with us right now. It’s been difficult from a personal standpoint. We have had to deal with large numbers with just two people.”

The Rebels finished 3-7 a season ago under head coach Bubba Nall. This spring the Rebels’ top priority is seeing what kind of athletes they have at each position in order to formalize a plan for the summer on.

“Number one– we need to see what we can do from an athlete standpoint,” Bryant said. “We need to hammer out a plan going forward to this summer and for fall camp.

“Every day we go out to practice and we work on fundamentals. We watch guys run around and see what their skill sets are and then we will make decisions based off that.

Bryant meets with his assistant coach after every practice to go after what they saw during the practice.

Bryant hopes that his team will begin to turn the corner over the final week of practice. So far his players have responded well to his new systems and philosophies.

“Coming in in April, spring practice is very important,” Bryant said. “The guys have done a great job at buying in to everything that I have been telling them. They have come to work every day.”

The Rebels have now had six days in which to practice. They will close out their spring schedule Friday night with a scrimmage.
