The Goshen Eagles wrapped up their spring schedule on Thursday afternoon when they took on Reeltown in Troy Cable Spring Football Classic at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

Although it wasn’t always clean, the Eagles defeated Reeltown 22-6.

“We did OK,” said head coach Bart Snyder. “It wasn’t as pretty as I would have liked to see. I think we are a much better team than how we performed today.”

The Eagles had 15 days to get in 10 practices this spring, and with that short amount of time to prepare, the Eagles did what they could to improve for the fall.

“Maybe my expectations are a little higher than what we are,” Snyder said. “I’ll look at the film and evaluate and see what we need to work on. We really haven’t had but five or six days to have a really good practice. It’s a lot to ask them to go out there and perform in a way that people want to see.”

The Eagles had big offensive plays by running Zack Alford, who picked up a big run; JaMarcus Sanford, a new to running; and Iyan Hinkle, who scored a touchdown on a catch and run.

The defense held Reeltown to just one touchdown, which came on the final play of the game.

“In the third quarter defensively I thought we got to what I expected us to be like,” Snyder said. “We still aren’t as good as I think we should be, but we played a little bit better in the third quarter.”

The Eagles will now look towards summer workouts and fall camp as opportunities to get better in advance of the 2017 season.

“The work ethic was good throughout the spring,” Snyder said. “We have to develop a passion to be great. We have to be committed to do things and work.”
