Sometime there’s a program that’s just too good and too important to miss.

Such a program is planned for 6 p.m. Saturday at Hephzibah Baptist Church.

The Pike County Chaplains Association will present “Cajun Gospel Music Night” and everyone is invited. A love offering will be received but admission is free.

“Cajun Gospel Music Night” will feature music by Hephzibah musicians, congregational singing and a presentation of Cajun comedy by Boudreaux the Cajun comedian.

Chaplain Ed Shirley said “Cajun Gospel Music Night” is a fundraiser for the Pike County Chap-lains Association, which was established on September 13, 2016.

“After attending the two-day workshop by the International Conference of Police Chaplains, Sher-iff Russell Thomas asked local ministers to be on call to serve as chaplains,” Shirley said. “We agreed but we wanted to do more than be on call. We wanted to have an active presence at the sher-iff’s department.”

The Pike County Chaplains Association responds to emergencies within the Pike County Sheriff’s Department and also conducts weekly devotionals at the Pike County Courthouse for the sheriff’s department and any courthouse employees who want to attend.

The Pike County Chaplains Association also has a presence at Troy Regional Medical Center.

“We have a weekly devotional at the hospital chapel, which is on third floor,” Shirley said. “The devotional is for hospital staff and employees and for family and friends of patients. We will also visit patients who have requested a visit from a chaplain.”

The chaplains are on an on-call rotation and are available 24-7, Shirley said.

The funds raised by “Cajun Gospel Music Night” will support the Pike County Chaplains Asso-ciation in its service to the Pike County Sheriff’s Department and Troy Regional Medical Center and in turn to the citizens of Pike and surrounding counties.
