The Charles Henderson Lady Trojans wrapped up play in the Andalusia softball tournament on Saturday with a 6-3 loss to Opp.

The Trojans finished the tournament with a 3-2 record after picking up wins against Andalusia and Kinston on Friday and Geneva County on Saturday to bring their record on the season to 20-18.

“This weekend I thought we played pretty good,” said Trojans head coach Robin Snyder. “In every game except one we fell behind early and came back to win. I was glad to see the girls fight and not give up.”

Molly Kate Sanders picked up the win for the Trojans over Geneva County after throwing five innings and allowing two unearned runs. Emma Kirkpatrick took the loss for the Trojans against St. James after pitching three innings, allowing six runs, two of which were earned on three hits. Sanders closed out the day on the mound against Opp and threw four innings while allowing six total runs on seven hits.

“I thought the pitchers pitched pretty well overall,” Snyder said.

The Trojans got back-to-back three-run innings to defeat Geneva  County. The Trojans finished with five hits led by Lindsey Fox who went 2-2 with one RBI, while Gracie Williams went 1-1 with two RBIs and Sidney Armstrong went 1-1.

The Trojans out-hit St. James 9-3 in their 6-5 loss in game two on Saturday. Kirkpatrick and Fox both went 2-2, while Armstrong, Whitaka Lowery, Tucker Earles, Sanders and Jaicee Todd each had one.

Fox had another two-hit performance against Opp, while Kirkpatrick, Armstrong, Earles and Sanders each had one.

The Trojans will take on Trinity in Montgomery early this afternoon before taking on Northview on Thursday and Pike County on Tuesday. With the area tournament scheduled to begin on April 4, Snyder and the Trojans hope to be playing their best softball of the season.

“It’s not how you start it’s how you finish,” Snyder said. “It’s getting to that part of the year where we need to finish strong. Even though we won our area it doesn’t mean anything. What really counts is the area tournament.”

First pitch between Trinity and Charles Henderson is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
