Former Charles Henderson assistant coach Randy Bryant has been named the new head football coach at Zion Chapel High School.

Bryant takes over for former head coach Bubba Nall, who left the program after one year as its head coach.

Zion Chapel will be Bryant’s first opportunity to be a head coach and he is ready to get things started.

“I am very excided,” Bryant said. “It’s a great opportunity. Everybody knows that Zion Chapel is a great school with great people. That is what initially turned me on to the job.

“Going in right before spring, the timetable is shortened. We will be on the fly for a while, but I am excited to see the kids.”

Bryant has spent the last two years at Charles Henderson in what was his second stop as a Trojan. Bryant has also spent time at Fort Payne High School for five years and Andalusia for two years. Bryant spent time coaching special teams as well as the offensive line and quarterbacks at Charles Henderson. He has a spread background and wants to score points.

“I want to score a lot of points,” Bryant said. “Everyone knows that offense sells tickets and defense wins championships.”

Nall is taking over a program on the rise. A season ago, the Rebels won three games for the first time since 2012 and they currently have a total of 83 players signed up to play this season.

Bryant is ready to leave his mark.

“Anytime you have numbers, obviously the chance for success goes up,” Bryant said. “That is exciting for me. I look forward to coming in and being myself and showing the kids what I am about. If we can get everybody to pull the rope in the same direction, I don’t see a reason why we can’t be successful.”
