So far Pike County has made it through two rounds of storms relatively unscathed according to EMA Director Jeanna Barnes.

Barnes said the first round of storms moved through around 2:30 a.m. and swept mostly through southern Pike County.

A second round of storms moved in around 8:30 a.m. and put the county back under a sever thunderstorm threat and Barnes said the second wave is still ongoing at this time.

Not much damage has yet been reported though Barnes said.

“So far, we’re OK,” Barnes said. “There’s something that may be coming in towards south Pike County and we’re under a tornado watch until noon, but then there’s another possible round this afternoon.”

Barnes said the third round is the wave officials are most concerned about, as she said it has the potential to spawn the larger, more destructive tornadoes.

“Some storms are already starting to fire up in west Alabama,” Barnes said.

The first round of storms was reportedly capable of producing one-and-a-half inch thick hail, but Barnes said she has not received any reports of hail damage at this time.

Mike Davis with Troy Utilities said none of their customers had lost power, but Southeast Alabama Electric (SAEC) reported that 53 of their Pike County customers are without power as of 11:00 a.m. Another 161 of their customers in Coffee County are also without power.
