The Charles Henderson Trojans wrapped up play in the 2017 Fort Payne Spring Break Tournament on Saturday afternoon.

The Trojans finished the tournament with a 3-1 record after defeating Cherokee County 9-8 in extra innings and falling to Piedmont 10-2 to end the tournament.

Jabronski Williams drove in Hunter Reeves on a fielder’s choice to give the Trojans the win in game one on Saturday.

Charlie Tisdale took the mound as the Trojans starter in game one. He allowed seven runs; six of them earned over seven innings of work.

Four Trojans had multi-hit games in the win. The Trojans finished with 15 hits in all, led by Devan Suddith who went 4-5 with two RBI’s.

The Trojans scored the game’s first runs in the third inning when Suddith scored on a wild pitch and Reeves hit a home run.

Noah Lowery singled in Suddith in the fifth to extend the Trojans lead to 3-0.

The Trojans looked to have put the game away in the sixth inning when they scored four runs to take a commanding 7-0 lead.

Chance Pollard drove in Gandy on a sacrifice fly for the inning’s first run, Suddith followed up with a two-run double and Lowery finished with a single to score Suddith.

After scoring their first run run in the bottom of the sixth, Cherokee tallied six hits in the seventh to push things to extra innings.

After both teams went scoreless in the eighth inning, the Trojans put the game away in the ninth.

Reeves led off the inning by reaching first on an error. He came around to score on a fielder’s choice by Williams to give the Trojans the 8-7 lead. The Trojans got an insurance run when Wilkes drove in Tucker on a sacrifice fly.

Cherokee was able to score, but the Trojans held on for the win.

Game two

Piedmont scored in all but two innings Saturday and cruised to the easy eight-run win over the Trojans.

Brock Huner got the start for the Trojans. He allowed four runs on six hits during his inning and a third on the mound.

The Trojans finished with five hits, compared to 15 by Piedmont. The Trojans got hits from Tucker, Williams, Gandy, Suddith and Lowery.

After allowing two runs in the top of the second inning, the Trojans evened the score on an RBI double by Suddith and a single by Lowery.

Piedmont followed with eight unanswered runs to pull away.

The Trojans will be back in action on Tuesday when they travel to take on Providence Christian at 4:30 p.m.
