The Troy University Concert Chorale will present its spring performance at 3 p.m. Sunday at Bush Memorial Baptist Church in Troy. The public is invited.

The concert commemorates and celebrates 10 years of Chorale performances. 

Diane Orlofsky, Chorale conductor, said alumni from 2006-2016 voted to identify some of their most memorable works. Sunday’s program has been built around these extraordinary compositions.

“Weaving these compositions together in a musical tapestry that describes our decade-long journey together has been so much fun,” Orlofsky said. “In addition, we will premiere a very special piece by composer Eric William Barnum titled, ‘Evensong,’ which was written for the occasion.”

Orlofsky said Barnum wrote another piece for the Chorale in 2011 and he is a favorite of the group.

“Eric has a phenomenal way of capturing the essence of a lyric and placing it in a masterful musical context,” Orlofsky said. “The first time I heard the piece, I wept. We look forward to sharing it with the audience.”

The celebration performance will feature guest conductors, Tori Lee Averett, Meagan King Johnson and Laura Aaron Mixon, who studied at Troy University and served as graduate assistants.

“Each one made her mark on this program and we are looking forward to welcoming them back to the podium,” Orlofsky said.

Faculty guest artists, Professor Carol Franks, Dr. Timothy Phillips and frequent guest artist, Dr. Katerina Juraskova with be featured along with student instrumentalists.

“Alumni in attendance will be invited to sing with the Chorale on their final piece,” Orlofsky said.

The performance will be a wonderful way to spend a springtime Sunday afternoon in Pike County.

Admission to the Troy University Concert Chorale’s spring performance is free.
