With six weeks remaining in the 2017 regular season, the Charles Henderson Lady Trojan softball team understands it’s time to start turning the corner.

After starting the season with a 5-1 record, the Trojans are now 3-10.

“We hit a spurt where we couldn’t really hit the ball, and if we did it was right at someone,” said Trojans head coach Robin Snyder. “It’s not how you start, it’s how you finish. If you’re going to hit a skid you want to hit it early and then be hitting on all cylinders at the end of the season.”

Even though the Trojans are hovering around .500 they are 2-0 in area play after defeating Greenville twice.

With the early success for the Trojans in area play, Snyder hopes to clean up the team’s mistakes for the season’s final month.

“We hope to keep improving and work out some of the little things to keep improving,” Snyder said. “By the time area tournament rolls around we hope to be hitting on all cylinders.”

In the first six games of the season, the Trojans were hitting .369 as a team.

Snyder believes the team is capable of doing damage up and down the lineup especially at the top with Emma Kirkpatrick, Sidney Armstrong, Tucker Earles and Lindsey Fox. In their win over Greenville on Thursday those players went a combined 7-11 with 10 RBIs.

“We have what we feel like are nine really good hitters,” Snyder said. “We have the luxury of having seven, eight, or nine strong bats in our lineup.”

On the mound the Trojans have two main options in Kirkpatrick and Molly Kate Sanders. “They have done good and I have been pleased with how they have pitched,” Snyder said. “We still have to do a little better job at hitting our spots. They need to trust in their teammates behind them to make the plays.”

The Trojans have a busy schedule ahead. During spring break they will take part in a tournament in Gulf Shores, one that is sure to test them.

“You have some good Alabama teams, Tennessee teams and you probably have a couple teams from Florida down there,” Snyder said. “We are going down there because we want to play tougher competition and see better pitching.”
