With the 2016-2017 high school basketball season now at a close, the attention now turns to the All-State Teams. The Alabama Sports Writers Association released the list over the weekend and six local players were rewarded with the All-State honors.

The Charles Henderson Lady Trojans had a memorable season that ended in Birmingham for the third time in the last four years. Led by sophomore Maori Davenport, the Trojans defeated Arab in the semifinals before falling to Wenonah in the state finals. For her efforts during the season, Davenport was named first team All-State in Class 5A. Davenport averaged 15 points per game and 13 rebounds.

On the boys’ side, another Trojan cracked the list as big man Josh Roberts was named third-team All-State. Roberts averaged 16.2 points per game with 12 rebounds and seven blocked shots.

Juhmir Lampley of Pike County was the lone representative in Class 3A when he was named third-team all-state. Lampley finished the season by scoring 15 points per game with five rebounds and seven assists.

Like the Trojans, the Goshen Eagles had two representatives make the list.  Bree Griffin landed as a second-team member for the girl’s team after totaling 512 points over the length of the season with 131 rebounds and 102 assists. Zack Alford was also named second-team All-State for the boys. Alford averaged 19.5 points per game with six rebounds and five assists.

Senior Lauren Johnson was the lone player from Pike Liberal Arts to be named to the All-State team. She was rewarded with second team honors after she averaged 20 points and ten rebounds.
